EDITOR'S NOTE

EXCERPT

Welcome to the fourth edition of the Columbia East Asia Review, the first all-undergraduate, peer-reviewed journal in the U.S. dedicated to publishing superior undergraduate research and promoting interdisciplinary dialogue on topics in East and Southeast Asian studies. While CEAR's mission as a publication is to highlight the excellent scholarly work on East and Southeast Asia undertaken by undergraduates worldwide, as an organization we seek to provide opportunities for undergraduate editors and authors to learn about the academic publication process. The fact that each year—as our submissions pool increases—the proportion of submissions from Columbia University and Barnard College actually decreases convinces us that we are truly achieving our goal of producing a relevant, international undergraduate publication. The incredible amount of effort each author and editor has put into preparing these articles for publication attests to the commitment all of us have made to a rigorous peer-review process and to making each article a consummate example of the excellence that undergraduate researchers can achieve.
